1. _I_n_t_r_o_d_u_c_t_i_o_n
The Silicon Graphics Image Format Library (IFL) Execution
environment is an optional subsystem that provides support
for opening, reading, writing and creating image files in a
format independent manner. IFL includes support for the
TIFF, PNG, GIF, JFIF(JPEG), SGI, PPM, Photo CD, Alias,
SOFTIMAGE, YUV, FIT and raw file formats.
IFL Execution environment software consists of a primary
library for C++ as well as a supporting library for C based
applications. Additionally, a set of libraries used for
supporting several file formats are included in the ifl_eoe
subsystems.
Important note: for backwards compatibility, the IFL 1.0
libraries are included in the ImageVision Library
release. This allows applications linked with IFL
release 1.0 to continue to run. However, to take
advantage of new formats and bugs fixed since the IFL
1.0 release, you must recompile and relink against
the IFL libraries. IFL is binary compatible with
both IFL 1.1, 1.1.1 and 1.1.2 releases.
